Premier League stars set for Leeds United

Leeds United are expected to bring in two Premier League signings ahead of Saturday’s derby clash at Sheffield Wednesday – serving as a much-needed double transfer boost for the club.
One of the prospective new recruits is thought to be Hull City winger Cameron Stewart, with United close to securing his signature, despite interest from several other sides, including Charlton Athletic.
While nothing has been resolved yet regarding the next destination of the wingman, United remain the strong favourites.
Manager Brian McDermott is desperate to bring in some new players to re-energize his side, who appear to have hit the equivalent of a brick wall in the past few weeks, culminating in their wretched FA Cup exit at Rochdale on Saturday.
United head into the lunch-time clash at Hillsborough on the back of a five-match winless streak, their longest spell without a victory in all competitions this season, with McDermott keen to augment his squad with the addition of a few more leaders.
He said: “We need something to galvanise the group.
“We need leaders on the pitch. It’s not just your captain. We need to have many leaders on the pitch. I actually had the same problem in the season we (Reading) got promoted (2011-12).
“We made a signing in January (Jason Roberts) which created a leader and then we created four or five other leaders from that person we signed.”
Stewart’s Tigers’ contract expires at the end of the season and he is expected to be allowed to leave Hull for nothing with the East Yorkshire outfit making moves to get him and several other fringe players off their books.
Hull’s promotion to the Premier League last season triggered a clause in Stewart’s contract, which put him on higher wages, along with a number of other contracted players at the club.
His future could be decided by tomorrow, according to sources close to the player.
Stewart’s loan at Charlton ended on New Year’s Day, but he was not included in Hull’s plans for the weekend FA Cup clash at Middlesbrough.
Immediately following the game, Tigers boss Steve Bruce revealed didn’t not to involve Stewart to avoid him being potentially cup-tied - amid interest from Leeds, who promptly bowed out of the competition at the hands of League Two outfit Rochdale.
Speaking directly after the clash at the Riverside Stadium, Bruce said: “We were going to play him, but there was an interest from Leeds and they didn’t want him cup-tied.
“I think we’re close and we want to wish him the best of luck. He’s had a particularly frustrating time, but he’s got himself back in good nick and he’s another one who we’ll try and help if we can.”
Stewart’s future has been up in the air since last summer when he was linked with moves to the likes of Charlton, Ipswich and SPL giants Celtic.
Stewart, who spent loan spells at Lancastrian duo Burnley and Blackburn Rovers last season, eventually moved to the Valley on loan on transfer deadline day at the start of September, staying there until New Year’s Day.
