Leeds United lose Smith red card appeal

Leeds United’s appeal against Matt Smith’s red card against Sheffield Wednesday has been unsuccessful.
Smith was given a straight red card in the early stages of the second half during Saturday’s defeat at Hillsborough for violent conduct after an incident with Reda Johnson.
United manager Brian McDermott told the club website: “I can’t understand why it wasn’t overturned. I’m sure they will have their reasons, but there was no intent. He’s gone in, in a fair way, he bumped into the player, and he went down easy.
“I don’t believe the fracas afterwards was helpful with players from Sheffield Wednesday running a long way to get involved. I’m very disappointed with the outcome.”
Smith will now miss the home games against Leicester City, Ipswich Town, and Huddersfield Town.

Starting striker Joel Piroe has been first choice over the last two seasons. And he has delivered, scoring over 35 goals.
