Leeds United lose Smith red card appeal

Leeds United’s appeal against Matt Smith’s red card against Sheffield Wednesday has been unsuccessful.
Smith was given a straight red card in the early stages of the second half during Saturday’s defeat at Hillsborough for violent conduct after an incident with Reda Johnson.
United manager Brian McDermott told the club website: “I can’t understand why it wasn’t overturned. I’m sure they will have their reasons, but there was no intent. He’s gone in, in a fair way, he bumped into the player, and he went down easy.
“I don’t believe the fracas afterwards was helpful with players from Sheffield Wednesday running a long way to get involved. I’m very disappointed with the outcome.”
Smith will now miss the home games against Leicester City, Ipswich Town, and Huddersfield Town.

Leeds United board break silence after transfer window with statement on upcoming Elland Road development — YEP 2/9/24

By Joe Donnohue Leeds United have confirmed supporters' commemorative stones at Elland Road's Centenary Square will be replaced free of charge in a bid to improve their longevity. Beginning next month, Leeds supporters' personalised stones will be replaced with exact replicas, courtesy of a new company, to ensure of a 'much better quality' installation. The work is expected to take around two months to complete. While the first team is preparing for the next friendly against Villarreal, the U21s side, with a host of first team stars, thrashed Norweigian side Lyn 1896 10-2 in a pre-season friendly this afternoon. There were some surprising names on the scoresheet – Patrick Bamford scored, Sam Greenwood netted a brace and Joe Gelhardt scored four goals in the game.
