Leeds take highly-rated striker on trial

Square Ball 18/12/13
Ahead of today’s development squad clash against Coventry, Leeds United revealed that they have taken highly-rated former Peterborough striker Shaquille McDonald on trial. McDonald, who was released seven months into a four year deal at The Posh, partners Dominic Poleon up-front today.
McDonald was considered the future of his club by chairman Darragh McAnthony, and scored two goals in three games whilst on loan at Histon earlier this season. Furthermore, he notably scored 11 goals in only three youth team appearances before leaving Peterbrough, showing his prowess in front of goal. His release came as part of a series of departures by youth team players, surprising fans given McDonald’s supposed talent.
There has already been signs that the club are willing to look at talent that have been unfairly treated elsewhere, with Leeds having signed former Southampton winger Ariyibi last week. Whilst McDonald will probably not be of a first team standard as of yet, his trial shows the extent to which the club is continually planning for the future.
