Neil Warnock on Barnsley defeat...
Furious Leeds United manager Neil Warnock was offering no excuses after watching his side slip to a 2-0 defeat at Barnsley on Saturday - but the boss was livid about a "game changing" decision in the second half.
Two second half goals from Chris Dagnall secured a comfortable victory for the home side as United slipped to a third successive defeat at Oakwell and almost 5,000 travelling fans left South Yorkshire disappointed.
"I don't blame the fans for being frustrated," said the boss. "If I was one of the 5,000 I'd have been exactly the same. They were frustrated and disappointed. I'd have joined in with them at half-time.
"There's no excuses. We didn't start well and we weren't good enough in the first half. We had too many players off their game and you can't do that at this level. We were non existent in midfield. They should have been out of sight by half-time.
"Ironically, I thought we started the second half well, and were having our best spell of the game. We created some good chances and if one of those has gone in...then they went in front with a penalty and scored a second soon after which killed us."
The boss was livid about a challenge on Ross McCormack moments before Barnsley went ahead, and he even took TV replays into his post-match interviews to emphasise his point.
"When you look at the tackle it is red card," said the boss. "It's nothing else. It's an horrendous challenge by Dawson. I can't understand why he hasn't given anything and they play on and get a penalty.
"It was a local derby and he let a lot of things go, and there was no consistency. It wasn't a game for a young referee. It was a leg breaking tackle. It was a disgrace."
The victory was Barnsley caretaker manager David Flitcroft's second from two games, and he was awarded the post on a full-time basis on Sunday lunchtime.
