Leeds United outcast 'on his way' to join Manor Solomon in Europe after transfer development — YEP 13/1/26
By Kyle Newbould
A fresh report claims one Leeds United fringe player could
be on his way out of Elland Road this month.
Out-of-favour Leeds United winger Jack Harrison has emerged
as a potential January transfer target for Serie A side Fiorentina, according
to reports in Italy.
Harrison has spent the first-half of the 2025/26 campaign on
the fringes of first-team football at Leeds, having returned from a loan spell
at Everton over summer. The winger has made 11 Premier League appearances but
started just once, and that came at Burnley when other options were all
injured.
Sunday’s FA Cup tie at Derby provided an opportunity for
Harrison to impress but despite playing the full 90 minutes in a 3-1 win, he
struggled to get going. And the 29-year-old has now been linked with a January
move away from Elland Road amid reported interest from Italy.
Journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Harrison is being
eyed by Fiorentina as they attempt to strengthen their attacking ranks. The
Italian outfit are currently in the Serie A relegation zone and have already
signed two wingers, with the out-of-favour Leeds man named as a possible third
option.
Harrison is said to be an ‘ideal profile’, given his ability
to operate on either wing, with Fiorentina club chiefs said to be ‘making an
advance’ for the 2019/20 Championship title-winner. And fellow transfer
journalist Matteo Moretto provided a fresh update on Tuesday morning.
In a post on X, he wrote: “Jack Harrison is on his way to
Florence, deal closed with Fiorentina. Valencia was also interested in him but
did not advance in the negotiations.”
Jack Harrison could join another Leeds United Championship
title winner
Earlier this month, Fiorentina signed Manor Solomon on loan
from Tottenham Hotspur for the remainder of the season, with an option to buy
the winger this summer. The Israeli international was excellent for Leeds last
season, playing a huge role in the Championship title triumph, but a temporary
summer switch to Villarreal didn’t work out.
It remains to be seen if La Viola are wanting a loan or
permanent deal for Harrison, who has experience fighting against relegation
with Leeds and Everton. The former Marcelo Bielsa favourite currently remains
contracted at Elland Road until 2028.
Harrison has fallen right down the pecking order since
returning from a second loan spell at Everton in the summer, however. He is
arguably fifth choice in wide areas when everyone is fit below Noah Okafor,
Willy Gnonto, Brenden Aaronson and Daniel James.
Furthermore, Farke’s recent switch to a 3-5-2 formation has
reduced the need for depth out wide, with all of the above names except James
holding another advantage over Harrison in that they can play in other
positions. Gnonto, Okafor and Aaronson could all operate as a second striker,
while the latter can also play in central midfield.
Speaking earlier this month, Farke said he did not plan to
offload any first-team squad members but admitted that stance could change if,
for example, a player expresses their desire to leave. Leeds’ PSR position
could also deem exits a necessity if the club want to spend money on mid-season
reinforcements.
