'A bit overconfident' — Daniel Farke delivers honest assessment after West Brom draw — Leeds Live 1/3/25
The Whites were unable to claim the three points against West Brom in the Championship
Leeds United had to settle for a point against West Bromwich
Albion this afternoon as their five-game winning streak came to an end.
Junior Firpo scored for the second consecutive game
following his goal against Sheffield United. But they went in to the break
level following Darnell Furlong's equaliser in the 39th minute and were unable
to grab a winner.
Daniel Farke's side were looking to distance themselves from
promotion rivals Sheffield, who are in action at Queens Park Rangers today.
Should the Blades come away winners, they will close the gap to three points
with 11 games left to play.
Speaking to reporters after the game at Elland Road, Farke
felt his team missed too many chances that could have been the difference.
"Yes, sometimes you have also have to accept to learn to live with a point
and we do today," he said.
"Top start to the game, we played on the front foot and
scored a fantastic goal. You could feel 'OK we can only bury the game'. Like
always, we have so many highlight, spotlight games, difficult emotional games
and then you go and lead and the sun is shining. Perhaps we were a bit
overconfident in possession.
"We lost then a bit of the control over the game, our
passing was not 100% focused. West Brom came back into the game, with a good
header and they scored the equaliser. It was a good reaction in the second half
because it is difficult once you lose momentum over the game then to gain
control back.
"We played against a good side, sadly missed too many
chances, sometimes the other side can score on the counter attack and you can
lose such a game. In the end we wanted to but in the end you have to live with
a point."
The Whites will return to Championship action next Sunday
when they take on Portsmouth at Fratton Park (12pm kick-off).
