Leeds United to fume at PGMOL admission, means absolutely nothing now — MOT Leeds News 23/12/24

Leeds United have beaten Oxford United since playing out a
controversy-shrouded draw against Preston North End.
Dan James, Jayden Bogle. Brenden Aaronson and Manor Solomon
were all on target as they thrashed the U’s 4-0 at Elland Road on Saturday 21
December, keeping the pressure on Sheffield United.
Daniel Farke’s side are just three points behind the Blades
at the top of the Championship table, having taken 45 points from their first
22 matches, but they should be even closer.
After going 1-0 down at Deepdale last weekend, Ben Whiteman
received a yellow card before making a bad challenge on Bogle, one that
warranted a second yellow, and therefore, a sending-off.
However, referee John Busby completely bottled the decision,
allowing the midfielder to play on until he was replaced by Preston during the
half-time break. Paul Heckingbottom was counting his lucky stars.
While a Jack Whatmough own goal helped Leeds to claim a
last-gasp draw, playing against 10 men for the best part of an hour would have
undoubtedly changed the course of the match.
According to journalist Beren Cross, Leeds have now received
an apology from the PGMOL for Busby’s glaring error at Deepdale, addressing the
controversial moment just nine days after it happened.
To say the least, the response time is absolutely
horrendous.
Farke’s side have already played another game since the
controversy emerged, and with nothing changing about two points being dropped,
the apology means nothing now.
Fans are, unsurprisingly, flooding the comments of Cross’ X
post with sarcastic comments aimed at Busby, knowing full well that the
official will just be given a small smack on the wrist.
Moments of a Championship campaign, with so much riding on
results for a team like Leeds, is just incredibly frustrating and an apology
nine days after the fact just rub salt into the wounds now.
