Daniel Farke's 'exciting' Leeds United message for 2025 after heartbreak memories — Leeds Live 29/12/24
The Whites will start the new year top of the Championship table after beating Derby County
Leeds United can look forward to 2025 with much anticipation
after the highs and lows of the current year. Manager Daniel Farke was
delighted with his side's 1-0 win over Derby County which sees them end 2024 on
top of the Championship table.
Brenden Aaronson's goal gave the Whites a 1-0 victory at
Pride Park following a battling performance and after Sheffield United had
drawn 1-1 with West Brom earlier in the day. While Farke was keen to play down
the importance of being top of the table at this stage of the season, he had a
positive message for the fans, who had to endure Wembley heartache in May, and
watch as big-name players such as Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter
were sold in the summer.
"It was a fully deserved win in a tough place,"
Farke said. "We were respectful because they are red hot at home. We
started well on the front foot and we were in total control.
"We didn't allow them to press us. We had chances to
score but didn't allow them anything. At some point we missed too much clear
chances.
"Normally you can't miss that many chances to win but
the goal was goal of the season. I love this goal on such a difficult pitch. A
perfectly calm finish. They won't have much on expected goals. We did amazingly
well defending, perfect team performance. Everyone chipped in."
Leeds host Blackburn on New Year's Day safe in the knowledge
that they will wake up on the first day of 2025 top of the pile. But while
Farke knows there is a long way to go, he still had time to reflect on the
positive work so far.
