Every word Daniel Farke said on Leeds United's win, Rutter, Bamford, Byram, August transfer plans - Leeds Live 31/7/23

Daniel Farke was speaking after Leeds United's pre-season win over Hearts at Tynecastle

Your team news first of all, so Georginio seemed to hold his side, what was the issue?

A muscle injury in his core. I hope it’s not too bad, we have to wait for the assessment. Too early to say something but it’s a core muscle.

Patrick, did he seem to hold his hamstring?

Yes, it seems to be like a hamstring injury. It's more or less the same. We have to wait for the assessment. So he's experienced enough and felt that something happened after the sprint and now we have to wait for the assessment.

Does that almost exacerbate one of the transfer issues that you most need, a number nine?

No, because I don't think it will affect our transfer plans at all because I don't think it's an unbelievably long term injury, so it's not like an ACL or something like this where you are months out. So we hope that's not too long. It could obviously affect the first game, let's be honest, but this is what the Championship is all about. If you missed two or three weeks and it could be quite quick four or five games. So we hope for the best right now. So in general, yeah, this this type of injury happened and we have to examine.

What did you think of the general performance, it felt very comfortable?

Really good. Absolutely dominant, also difficult with second long travel after the game on Thursday. We spent yesterday four and a half hours on the coach, trained in the morning, a long, long day and then deliver such a performance.

I think we were all over them in the first half. They didn’t have one chance. In the second half there was this one chance that they had but it was in this moment spot on. I'm pretty happy with them with a clean sheet because we missed so many chances today and we scored also fantastic second goal but then the assistant has an idea what to show that is also there in the stadium and once we celebrate by the fans, he was the only person who saw offside position.

When this happens you have to show steel, that's what we did. I'm especially pleased with a back to back clean sheet. Back to back wins [is] good for the confidence, good for the mood and overall really, really good performance against a strong side against a competitive side and excited home stadium and also tight. We were able to create many, many chances, missing a bit too many if I'm honest, but overall really good.

How close was today's team to what you might want to see next weekend against Cardiff. Can things still change in the next week in training?

Quite often it's really like this that the final test is more like pretty much a first team, but not for us because that pre-season was too short. We didn't have enough time and we use this also to see a little bit more. I don't think that will be 11 new players next Sunday on the pitch, definitely a few will be involved. It was not only a big show of what we'll do on Sunday. So for that we needed this test and also try to share also the time, Charlie Cresswell got 90 minutes today and the same with other players so yes, we will see. I think overall we are, for our circumstances, for this occasion, well prepared.

How do you see the situation with Sam now, you’ve had a few more weeks with him and you've had a good look, the season is now upon us and he’s going need a deal if he’s going to play a part. Do you think that will happen this week in the coming days?

We will see, so we will assess right now pre-season. We've not discussed it so far but we know what we've got. Sam has shown great attitude, experienced player, homegrown player, free agent, so then I don't find many, many arguments against them.

There was some really good performances but yes, we'll have a closer look at this. So it's not a big, big topic and not a big issue, but we're all happy that he’s gone through this pre-season without any injuries and also, need to listen also bit to what he thinks and what he wants and then we'll come to a conclusion I think over the next week.

You must be delighted that Karl’s finally arrived. How would you see the next few days and weeks going with ins and outs, what can the fans expect to see?

Well, I think this was important because we needed definitely another experienced goalkeeper, quality goalkeeper and also homegrown option, because you need to have many homegrown players and especially on the goalkeeper position, we were a bit thin.

So for that, I think a brilliant signing for us and many compliments our key people who made this happen. Yeah, I've spoken about this quite in length also last week that I think we if you want to be ambitious, we will need a few more a few more signings, but we also have to stick to the financial circumstances of what we can do and we also accept this.

So we try to work on this to the end of August to present our supporters the best possible squad in order to be successful. Just in the end of August, we can really judge how far we've come and then yeah, right now we need to win as many points already in August.
