Leeds United v Brentford: Frustrated Redfearn laments Salisbury decisions

Yorkshire Evening Post 7/2/15
LEEDS UNITED head coach Neil Redfearn struggled to contain his frustration with referee Graham Salisbury after seeing his Whites’ side go down 1-0 to promotion-chasing Brentford.
The only goal of the game arrived on 65 minutes when Alex Pritchard netted, with Redfearn adamant that there was a handball offence and foul in the lead-up to the strike from the Spurs loanee.
Redfearn also felt Leeds should have been awarded at least one penalty in an afternoon when the performance of Lancashire-based referee Salisbury attracted withering criticism from home supporters.
A clumsy challenge by Moses Odubajo on Rudy Austin went unpunished shortly before the interval and appeals for a spot-kick in the second half went unheeded after another challenge by the Bees player on the Jamaican international.
Redfearn believed that a number of 50-50 decisions also went against his side and felt that over the course of the game that United, despite not being anything like at their best, deserved a point.
Redfearn, who handed a debut to new signing Edgar Cani late on, said: “You are looking for parity in those sort of decisions and we did not have them today.
“Definitely the decision for the goal went against us and should have been in our favour - no two ways about it.
“The referee gave the decision and got the decision wrong and obviously Brentford go and score and that’s the difference in the game.
“We deserved something out of the game, no two ways about it.
“I thought we could have had a couple of penalites. I thought Rudy got brought down in the second half and that was a penalty.
“For whatever reason, the referees aren’t giving us them.”
On his overall take on the game, he added: “It was very frustrating as I felt we deserved something out of the game, if I am honest.
“I don’t think it was a great game. But I thought we locked horns with a very good side and that we deserved something out of the game.
“The decisions that made the difference in the game went against us.”
