Report: Hull City 3-3 Leeds United — Leedsunited.com 4/1/25
A point each in the Yorkshire derby.
Leeds United came from a goal behind against Hull City at
the MKM Stadium to take a point in East Yorkshire, but will feel they should
have had all three.
Daniel Farke’s side were a goal down at the interval but a
strong second half showing in this Yorkshire derby saw three goals scored, but
a late comeback of their own from the hosts meant both teams had to settle for
a point.
In a first opening of the game, a long searching ball over
the top of the Leeds defence saw Abu Kamara race through on goal and with Illan
Meslier coming out to close the angle, the midfielder lobbed the ball over the
‘keeper and found the back of the net to give Hull an early lead.
Almost equalising immediately, Ethan Ampadu burst forward
from the back and through the home midfield. He played the ball left to Manor
Solomon who somehow saw his shot blocked on the line, before the follow up from
Joel Piroe was deflected wide for a corner.
Shortly after, the Whites came close again. Max Wober worked
space on the left and looked up, then pulled the ball back for Brenden Aaronson
who saw his shot saved well by Ivor Pandur in the Tigers net.
Just after half an hour had been played, the home side had a
clear chance to make it two. A ball in from the left went all the way across
the area and found Regan Slater inside the six-yard box, who somehow, from just
a couple of yards out struck the post, in a huge let-off for Leeds.
Ruben Selles saw his side have two further chances before
the break. Matthew Jacob struck from just outside the box which went narrowly
wide of the post, before Steven Alzate worked some space in the area for
himself but also shot off target.
When the whistle sounded for the break, it was the home side
who took the lead into their dressing room after having the better chances in
the opening 45 minutes.
HALF TIME: Hull City 1-0 Leeds United
Straight back out after half-time and Leeds were aiming to
go and find a quick equaliser, and they did just that within a minute!
Keeping possession after the restart, the Whites saw Solomon
play the ball to Ao Tanaka on the edge of the box and without hesitation, he
fired an unstoppable effort into the top corner to equalise!
Two more chances followed the goal, one at either end. For
the home side, Jacobs tested Meslier with another strike from the edge but the
‘keeper saved well. Leeds then broke forward and Aaronson played a dangerous
ball across the box which Dan James flicked just wide of the post.
Leeds kept the pressure on and continued to search for
another, which paid off just after the hour mark as Farke saw his side take the
lead at the MKM Stadium!
Again it was another good team move. Beginning with Wober
out wide, he found Solomon who showed quick feet before he played the ball
across the box, it found Jayden Bogle, who cut it back for James to smash home
at close range!
The Whites needed to remain alert defensively as Hull
continued to create chances. After his first half goal, Kamara remained lively
and had two good efforts, both of which saw the visiting defence stand firm to
clear.
Pouncing on a mistake from Pandur in the Hull net, Leeds had
the opportunity to make it three in front of the packed out away end and they
did just that!
Piroe picked up the loose goal-kick from the stopper, he
composed himself and still had plenty of work to do, but after doing so he
fired home left-footed into the bottom corner to make it three!
The Tigers quickly hit back though and set up a tense
finish. A looping ball inside the Leeds area came back off the top of the
crossbar and fell kindly for Joao Pedro to tap home at close range.
Yet another big chance in this end to end game came with
five minutes to play. This time it was James racing in on goal, and with Pandur
rushing out his net, the ‘keeper managed to stop the winger getting his second
by saving with his head this time.
Entering stoppage time and Hull did equalise. From a ball
into the middle, Kamara was in space on the edge of the box and he smashed home
low into the net when the ball came his way to make it three apiece.
Four minutes of stoppage time didn’t bring about anymore
goals, meaning the whistle sounded and confirmed a point each.
