Leeds’ Tyler Adams set for extended spell on sidelines after surgery on hamstring injury - The Athletic 28/3/23
By Phil Hay
Leeds United have suffered a fresh injury blow after
midfielder Tyler Adams was forced to undergo surgery on a hamstring injury.
The USMNT international has been sent for an operation on
the problem he suffered before the international break, ruling him out of a
longer stretch of the Premier League run-in.
Leeds are in the process of establishing the exact length of
Adams’ time out and are expected to make further assessments next week but an
extended absence comes as a blow to head coach Javi Gracia.
Adams damaged a muscle during a training session ahead of
Leeds’ 4-2 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on March 18 and was forced to pull
out of international duty with the USMNT, remaining in England where he went
under the knife.
The 24-year-old, who joined Leeds from RB Leipzig last
summer, has been a prominent part of United’s line-up this term, starting 24
times in the top flight.
Leeds are 14th in the table, two points above the bottom
three, and have 11 matches remaining beginning with Arsenal away this Saturday.
Gracia has doubts over Willy Gnonto and Max Wober ahead of
the trip to Arsenal after both sustained minor injuries on international duty
with Italy and Austria respectively.
