‘I take responsibility for Leeds defeat, we are finding ways to lose’ — Jesse Marsch - The Athletic 23/10/22
By Anthony Hay
Under-fire Leeds United head coach Jesse Marsch has said he
will take responsibility for his side’s fourth consecutive defeat in the
Premier League.
Marsch’s side are in the relegation zone with just nine
points from their opening 11 league games which has led to speculation over the
American’s future at Elland Road.
Leeds were defeated 3-2 by Fulham at home on Sunday, a game
in which Marsch said his side are “finding ways to lose”.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, Marsch said:
“They’re a team with confidence and they find ways to win. We find ways to
lose. We’re a little bit in a balance with our confidence at the moment.
“It’s painful right now and I take responsibility. I have to
find ways to organise us and keep the confidence high. It’s discipline,
concentration and belief to know we’re on the right path.
“I understand the frustration from the fans. We’re doing
everything we can. We’re unified. The players have been great and I know it
hasn’t been easy for them. We believe in them. The board and I are unified.
“We’ve had clear discussions that we’re together.”
Marsch took over the reins from Marcelo Bielsa last
February, helping Leeds remain in the Premier League thanks to key wins over
Norwich, Wolves, Watford and Brentford.
Leeds started off the new campaign by taking seven points
from their opening three league games but they have not won in the top flight
since August 21 when they defeated Chelsea 3-0.
They are next in action next Saturday evening when they take
on Liverpool at Anfield.
