'He's nice but can switch' - Adam Forshaw opens up on Jesse Marsch's different side at Leeds United - Leeds Live 4/10/22

Leeds United midfielder Adam Forshaw has opened up on a different side to Jesse Marsch’s character that he is not afraid to show the squad. Marsch was appointed as Marcelo Bielsa’s successor in March earlier this year following the departure of the Argentine.

Bielsa’s style as a manager was to keep his distance from the playing staff, as he looked to make his relationship with the squad as professional as possible. Marsch, on the other hand, is someone who takes a much more hands-on approach to man management, keeping in constant conversation with his players.

While Marsch is always happy to keep his door open, Forshaw claims he is equally as unafraid to tell players how it is if he’s not happy. Speaking in an interview with former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy for the Daily Mail, Forshaw cited two examples of how he can ‘switch if he needs to’.

He said: “As a character, he is very personable. You walk past his office, the door is literally open. There are bits of different terminology, full-backs are outside-backs and you hear him mention red zones [between the lines]. But you quickly pick up on it.

“He's nice but can switch if he needs to. After one game, a couple of substitutes grumbled about doing pitch runs and he's made it clear 'That is your f***ing job'.

“We were doing phase play in training and IIlan Meslier gave a slow pass out, a sloppy one. Jesse ordered him to do it again, which the lads weren't expecting.

“Illan gave another slow one and Jesse has ripped into him. Five minutes later, the gaffer is laughing, saying 'I still love you'. It was a different side from the manager that the lads respect.'”
