Leeds United Football Club - Player Statement: Wage Deferral

The playing staff of Leeds United today released the following statement:
"We wish to make it clear that we are fully behind the club and are working with Trevor Birch and the Professional Footballers Association in the hope of solving the problems. Some of the reports we have read in the newspapers are wrong. We are together as a team and no decision has yet been made one way or the other on whether to defer a percentage of our wages. We have said that we will be prepared to support the club, should it be required."

The Whites are closing in on a deal for a centre-back as Jack Harrison closes on a move to Everton. By Mark Carruthers Leeds United are reportedly closing in on a £10million deal to make Liverpool defender Nat Phillips their fifth summer signing. Daniel Farke has already completed permanent deals for Chelsea defender Ethan Ampadu, Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow and former Norwich City full-back Sam Byram. The German dipped into the loan market last week when he persuaded Tottenham Hotspur to allow centre-back Joe Rodon to spend the season at Elland Road. With the loan departure of winger Jack Harrison to Premier League club Everton expected to be confirmed in the coming hours, Farke is expected to continue pressing on with his efforts to boost his own squad in a bid to help the Whites bounce back from relegation into the Championship at the first attempt. By Callum O'Connell Everton have been in touch with Leeds United again over a potential deal to sign Wilfried Gnonto, but there is no truth to reports claiming a fee has been agreed, according to Shamoon Hafez. The BBC Sports reporter shared via his personal Twitter account that, despite reports in Italy claiming a £38.5million deal had been agreed between the two clubs, the Italian’s valuation has not yet been met. A report from Italian outlet Sports Mediaset earlier today claimed an agreement had been reached, and that Gnonto would say goodbye to Leeds, but that appears to have been played down now.
