Leeds sweat over potential Luis Sinisterra injury - The Athletic 22/7/22
By Phil Hay
Leeds United were dealt a blow on Friday as their new
£20million summer signing Luis Sinisterra was withdrawn in the first half of
their friendly against Crystal Palace with an apparent injury.
To add to Jesse Marsch’s concerns, midfielder Adam Forshaw
also had to be substituted in the opening half.
Sinisterra, 23, was making his first start for the club
since his transfer from Dutch club Feyenoord.
But the Colombia international only made it through the
opening 11 minutes of the club’s pre-season match against Premier League rivals
Crystal Palace at the Optus Stadium in Perth, Western Australia.
Sinisterra pulled up off the ball after a challenge on him
and appeared to hold his hamstring as he was withdrawn.
The new signing was replaced by Rodrigo with the game still
goalless.
Forshaw, 30, also departed in the same half.
Leeds will hope Sinisterra’s injury is not a serious one
with the start of the Premier League season now only three weeks away.
Marsch said of the two injuries after the 1-1 draw with
Crystal Palace: “Luis Sinisterra had a little hamstring injury. We're hopeful
it's not too much, too long or too severe. Any time we have a hamstring injury
I'm totally dissatisfied because I think it's reflective of everything we do
physically. Adam Forshaw tweaked his knee. We're hopeful as well that that
one's not so bad but we'll get more information in the next few days.”
Marsch’s pre-season plans have already been dealt a blow by
Junior Firpo sustaining a hip injury in a friendly against Blackpool, which
will rule him out for eight weeks.
Sinisterra was Leeds’ sixth signing of the summer following
the arrivals of Tyler Adams, Marc Roca, Rasmus Kristensen, Brenden Aaronson and
Darko Gyabi.
Sonny Perkins, meanwhile, signed for the club on a free
transfer earlier this week.
There have also been a number of outgoings, with Kalvin
Phillips departing for Manchester City for £42million and Raphinha moving to
Barcelona for an undisclosed fee.
